As the Christmas holidays quickly approach, it is very easy to be wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the season. Many times we can become easily distracted during Christmas with one more gift to purchase, a different dinner to attend or another family member to visit. I was recently challenged by an article that I read in which the author, Max Lucado, posed the statement, “Those who missed His Majesty’s arrival that night missed it not because of evil acts or malice; no, they missed it because they simply weren’t looking. Little has changed in the last two thousand year, has it not? (Lucado, Max. Homelife. “An Unlikely Savior”. Volume 58, No. 3, December 2003).” I was stunned in thinking just how many times I had missed Christ at work all around me because I was so caught up in just one more activity rather than the big picture.

This Christmas, be sure to take time with your children to see God’s big picture! Jesus was sent to earth in the form of a baby so that he could one day bear our sins on Calvary. His choice to leave Heaven’s throne could not have been an easy one. However, the thought of our eternal hopelessness was one he could not accept. How thankful I am for the birth of our savior!
